Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2025-10-27T13:38Z ( ACE: MAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
ACE: MAG
ACE: SWEPAM
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
Activity ID: 2025-10-27T13:38:00-IPS-001 (version 3)
Quality of ICME Signature: 0 (weak signatures)
Note: Characterized by an initial sharp drop in B-total at start time from around 6-7nT to 3.7nT before a slow rise >10nT, reaching a peak 11.1nT at 2025-10-27T23:05Z. Bz has not sustained either northward or southward, swinging between +8.6nT and -8.9nT throughout the signature. An initial in solar wind speed from around 350 km/s to around 375 km/s followed by a gradual rise to around 450 km/s, a gradual rise in temperature accompanying the increase in speed, and a more sharp density increase from around 5p/cc to 25p/cc are all observed alongside the magnetic field enhancement. The source is complex and likely a mix of the later-than-expected glancing blow from CME 2025-10-23T16:38Z modeled to arrive 2025-10-26T13:00Z (+-7 hours), potentially a CIR ahead of a southern coronal hole whose western edge crossed the central meridian on 2025-10-25, and potentially a solar sector boundary crossing with the pile-up, velocity increase, and phi angle flip from 315 to 135 degrees around 2025-10-27T15:22Z.
